Thanks to National Lottery players, the Harrow Nature Conservation Forum has been awarded 124,743 pounds by The Heritage Lottery Fund for work to restore the built and natural environment of Bentley Priory Nature Reserve.The project will begin in September 2026 and continue through August 2031.
Among the jobs to be done are:
 We will stabilize a Georgian obelisk that would otherwise continue to lose bricks. This is specialized work – one cannot use regular mortar, it must be “lime mortar” as was used in 1800. |  We will remove a small number of trees to recreate the vistas – views from the top over the site down over Harrow to London – that were a featre of the late 19th century parkland |  We will repair the World War II pillbox that is losing bricks. |
 We will cut the bramble that is encroaching onto the lovely flower-rich grasslands so that it is weakened and can be controlled by cattle grazing. |  We will update the nature trail and replace missing hardware. |
Much of the work will be done by volunteers, and we will reach out to all members of the Harrow community to involve them and get their help. Harrow Nature Conservation needs new blood, and we hope that the interest generated by this project brings in new volunteers to help us maintain this and other sites in the borough.
