Bentley Priory project – update #2 6th November 2026

The repair to the pillbox is now finished. This has been combined with clearance of young trees behind and to the sides of the building, which has been designed to provide flyways to guide bats into the building. As an additional benefit, this has made the pillbox much more visible from the Weald Path which should reduce antisocial behaviour around the building.

As well as replacing lost concrete bricks (which are very obvious now, but should weather to fit in with the older bricks) we have given the roof a small overlap so that rainwater does not run down the walls but drops straight to the ground, keeping the structure dry and cozy for the bats. Below is a video showing the rain dripping off the roof just as we intended!
